Student Art & Learning Expo Celebrates a Year of Growth and Creativity

On Friday, May 29, we opened our doors for an afternoon of celebration as students, parents, family members, and community supporters gathered for the Student Art & Learning Expo - the school came alive with creativity and a whole lot of pride.

Every grade level brought something special to the event — showcasing artwork created throughout the year using a variety of mediums and techniques, alongside unique learning projects that gave families a window into the academic work happening inside our classrooms. Visitors were invited to leave post-it note compliments on student artwork, and the kind words left behind made the displays even more special.

Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Big Dreams and Beautiful Stories

Kindergartners displayed their classroom book featuring responses and drawings to one of the best questions you can ask a five-year-old: What do you want to be when you grow up? The book is as imaginative and inspiring as the students themselves.

First graders showcased their writing project, "How To Be A Saint." Students have been developing their writing skills all year, and this project was the capstone of the year. Over the course of two weeks, they worked hard on drafting their own stories and creating artwork to go alongside them. Seeing their finished book on display was a testament to how far they've come this year.

2nd & 3rd Grade: Happy 250th Birthday, America!

Grades 2 and 3 had a mission: celebrate our nation's 250th birthday — and they delivered.

Second and third graders spent weeks learning America's founding story and diving deep into our nation’s history. Each chose an era to explore: the Pilgrims, the Revolutionary War, or the Oregon Trail. From there, they selected a real historical figure from their era and wrote a first-person biography, stepping into that person's shoes to tell their story. It was history brought to life.

Walking through their displays felt like a mini history museum — and a reminder that our students are thoughtful, capable learners doing impressive academic work.

A Day to Remember

The Student Art & Learning Expo is one of those afternoons that reminds us why we love this school. From the youngest artists to our older students tackling research and writing, every child had something meaningful to share — and every family member and supporter who walked through those doors got to see exactly what a BBCS education looks like in action. The post-it notes of encouragement left on student work were a sweet reminder of the thoughtfulness and care in our Bishop Baraga community.

Thank you to our incredible teachers for guiding these projects and putting this special afternoon together, and to every family and community member who came out to celebrate. We are so proud of our Eagles. 🦅
