Refocusing Our Uniform Policy

Over time, our uniform policy — which has always been rooted in a belief that every child deserves to feel like they belong — has gradually drifted. What started as a unified look has become inconsistent, and we think it's time to come back to what we know works.

That's why we're refocusing our uniform policy beginning in the 2026–27 school year, with a return to a clear, consistent standard centered on our school color: hunter green.

It's about belonging

When every student wears the same thing, something shifts. The social pressure around clothing — which is real, even at the elementary level — fades. Children can focus on making friends, taking risks in the classroom, and being themselves, rather than worrying about what they're wearing.

A consistent uniform reduces visible markers of socioeconomic difference among students. We want every child to walk in feeling like an equal member of our community. A unified look is one way we support that.

It's about simplicity for families

We heard from families that the inconsistency in our current policy has made mornings harder — more questions, more gray areas, more back-and-forth. A clear, consistent uniform policy takes those questions off the table entirely. No negotiations. No guessing. Just a simple, comfortable outfit and out the door.

We've worked to keep this affordable. Uniform items are available through everyday vendors at different price points. Secondhand shopping is encouraged. And for families who need additional support, assistance is available — visit our Uniform Room where all items are free or reach out to us privately.

It's about pride

Hunter green isn't just a color — it's our color. When our students wear it, they're not just wearing clothes. They're wearing a reminder that they're part of something - a community.

Over the years, as the policy loosened, some of that shared identity faded. We want to bring it back. A school that looks unified feels unified — and our students deserve that sense of belonging every single day.

The updated uniform policy is available here. We know change can feel big, even when it's a return to something familiar. We know some of you may have questions or concerns, and we want to hear them.

Our goal has always been to make our school the best possible place for every child — and we believe this step helps us do exactly that. Have questions? Reach out — we're always happy to talk.
