Exciting News: Art and Physical Education Coming to K-6!
We're thrilled to announce that beginning next school year, Bishop Baraga will be adding dedicated Art and Physical Education classes to our K-6 curriculum with a dedicated instructor. This represents our continued commitment to educating the whole child—mind, body, and spirit.
Why Art Matters
Art education does far more than teach children to draw or paint. It develops critical thinking skills, encourages creative problem-solving, and gives students new ways to express themselves and understand the world around them. Through art, students learn to carefully observe, use their imagination, and communicate ideas and emotions that words alone cannot capture.
The Importance of Physical Education
Physical education is essential for developing healthy, active children. In addition to daily recess available from 7:30 a.m. until the first bell at 7:55 a.m., and after lunch, having a dedicated physical education curriculum helps students build coordination, strength, and cardiovascular fitness while teaching important lessons about teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Educating the Whole Child
By adding these programs, we're recognizing that academic excellence isn't only about reading, writing, and mathematics—though those remain foundational. Education nurtures every aspect of a child's development. Art feeds creativity and emotional expression. Physical education builds healthy bodies and confident, resilient spirits. Together with our strong academic program and faith formation, these additions help us fulfill our mission to develop well-rounded students prepared for success in school and in life.
